Mullet
the perfect substitute
Although I have a dirty “harbour fish” reputation, the mullet that you buy from your fishmonger comes from offshore fisheries.
Chelon labrosus or other grey mullet species (Mugil spp. or Liza spp.)
What I eat
I eat algae, aquatic plants and small invertebrates.
Where I’m from
Mediterranean Sea, North Sea and Eastern Atlantic Ocean between Iceland and Mauritania.
Mature size
At least 30 cm.
How you can help
I’m a perfect alternative to overfished sea bass. I taste almost the same and I cost less!
Idea how to cook
Thicklip grey mullet fillet
with crispy vegetables and green tea
